On behalf of the Carolina Black Caucus, I welcome you to our official website.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Carolina Black Caucus (CBC) as the oldest affinity group for Black faculty and staff at Carolina. The CBC collectively represents close to 300 faculty, staff, graduate students, alumni, and allies from across the University and in the local community.  Over the past four decades, the Caucus has been dedicated to engaging, celebrating, empowering, and advocating for Black faculty, staff, and students.  The Caucus exists to ensure that Black faculty and staff are retained and supported on campus and to provide a network of mentors for the Black student body. Our vision is to foster a just and equitable campus community. With this in mind, we call on the University to be overt by becoming a leading public institution that centers its actions on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We call on the University to be more transparent and to hold people accountable. We call on the University to make this place our home.

We will continue to uphold the legacy of the CBC, celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Black faculty, staff and students and most importantly, we will continue to highlight the ways in which the CBC stands at the forefront of the fight for the issues and interests of the Black community at Carolina. Throughout its history, the CBC has been known as the “Conscience of Carolina”, a distinction that has never been more important than it is at this time in history.

We encourage you to visit this site frequently to learn more about opportunities to serve, upcoming events, programs and initiatives. This site will inform, educate, and motivate, always with a focus on engaging, empowering, and advocating for the Black community.

In solidarity,

Trish Harris, Chair

The leadership team is committed to furthering the mission of the CBC and the sustenance of this important organization at UNC. We are dedicated to uplifting the voices of the voiceless and advocating for the most vulnerable among us. The leadership team is working every day to uplift concerns of the Black community and hold the University accountable. In an effort to take action and ignite change, the CBC hosts convening, forums, and panel discussions to provide a platform for the issues most important in our community. The CBC also engages people where they are by hosting social events and professional development opportunities within the local community to help foster a stronger sense of belonging. Whether on or off campus, the CBC leadership prioritizes outreach to the Black community by:

  • Engaging communities in constructive dialogue;

  • Uplifting and sharing the stories of our Black faculty, staff, and students;

  • Celebrating the accomplishments of Carolina’s Black community; and

  • Mobilizing the next generation of Black leaders.
